There's Something About Mary is an all-around good DVD. Picture quality is great, with a sharp, clear picture and vivid colors. Sound is clear, but focused primarily on the center channel, with support from the front, but very little surround effects. Several extras are included such as a director's commentary by the Farrelly brothers. A humorous outtakes set is included, but I think I would have rather seen a deleted scenes option. The menu set includes audio and an animated "Puffy", Mary's dog.

There are comedies and there are funny comedies. Something About Mary is not simply a funny movie -- it is raucously funny. This film truly pushed the envelope of mainstream comedy to new levels, going places that later comedies will follow and even go beyond, but never quite duplicate.
Ted is a typically geeky high-school kid who is lucky enough to win the most sought-after girl in school as his prom-date. Regrettably for Ted, a bit of a bathroom mishap prevents the fateful prom night from transpiring.
Thirteen years later, Ted still dreams of Mary -- in fact he's in therapy because he can't stop thinking about her. A friend suggest that Ted hire a private detective to find his lost love, which he hesitantly does.
Regrettably for Ted, the detective is Matt Healey (Matt Dillon), who, like everyone else who comes into contact with her, is drawn to Mary.
The scene is now set for a hilarious story, filled with lots of surprises and unexpected twists.
If you aren't laughing through this movie, you really need to lighten up. Get it. Watch it. Love it.
