Your curiosity, however, probably remains unquenched.

The question you probably still have is:  WHY?

Good question.

Why does a benevolent God allow human pain and suffering?  Why do we continue to destroy our planet?  Why do children eat crayons?  Why do fools fall in love? Why does it seem that the ENTIRE UNIVERSE CONSPIRES TO DEFEAT ME!?!?

Oh, wait, you wondered why the name Prefect?!?  Sorry.

I will try to give you some of my rational.  The single most important factor in naming this website relates to definition number two under the definition of Ford Prefect. Ford Prefect is one of the protagonists in Douglas Adams' radio, television and novel series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. If you haven't read it, stop wasting your time with this page and start reading!

I also like the fact that both prefect and Ford Prefect have multiple meanings.  In a loose fashion, I was a "prefect" in college while I was a resident assistant in the dormitories.

Ford Prefect, and variations of it, has been one of my primary aliases on computer bulletin boards and the Internet for many years.  Although there are others using this alias, I like to think that I was one of the very first to do so (if not the first.)  My original page was the first page on the World Wide Web to be dedicated to Ford Prefect.
