Early in the spring of 1999 an intriquing proposition presented itself. I learned that my good friend Guy would be accompanying his parents to Australia in October to enjoy a timeshare deal they had worked out. If I could come up with the plane fare, I could tag along too.

Australia is, one could say, a pretty good stretch from Florida. In fact, one could say that it is about as far away as one could get and still be on planet Earth. To complicate matters further, it was prohibitively expensive to get a direct flight into our final destination of Coffs Harbour, so it would take three planes and a good car ride to get to our destination -- not a cheery prospect when faced with some recent back and neck trouble.
